in all honesty, he could agree that things were very outdated in terms of how the clave handled downworlders. some days he knew that they needed to fix things, they needed for it to be more of a partnership and less of whatever it was they were calling it. but to do that would require change and not just at the institute, but at the clave, as well. and unfortunately, he knew that change like that wouldn’t come easy. everyone seemed to be content with the way things were handled and jace knew that replacing everyone in idris would be the only way to change. “i KNOW but there’s not much that can be done,” he carefully explained, trying not to make things worse. they’d already gotten on each other’s nerves and pushing the clave’s words time and time again wasn’t going to make things better.

“don’t hear about too many SOLO wolves in the city.” it was interesting to say the least. he figured this one was either from another pack or luke had decided not to let them know there was a new one. eventually the institute found out but finding out this one was on his own? it wasn’t something he’d been expecting to hear. but he also wasn’t going to push it. as long as he followed the accords jace wasn’t going worry too much about it. not when he had bigger things to worry about. demon attacks were on the rise and a solo wolf wasn’t anything they needed to focus their attention on. “don’t be surprised if someone else questions you about it. most of us deal with the brooklyn pack.”

as much as this one had annoyed him in the end he wasn’t going to just continue to harass him. though something told him this wouldn’t be the last time they’d run into each other. if he was going to stay in the city they would most likely run into each other more than a few times. at least they wouldn’t have to have this particular conversation again. and he’d make a point of telling the others to keep an eye on him. loners tended to cause more trouble than those with a pack and while it wouldn’t be his priority he knew the others might want to harass him for the hell of it. “mundanes don’t harass downworlders. they tend to mind their own business.” the same couldn’t be said for the other downworlders. jace did hope, though, if something happened this one would let him know. “i don’t look like i’m sucking on a lemon.” annoyance changed into confusion and he was curious as to what the hell the other was talking about. “look, if you play nice everyone else will, too. we’d rather not come after you for something that could’ve been avoided.”

❛  ─ and if they do. trust that i let them find me. like i said, i’ve been here a while… right under your pretty little nose.  ❜  he taunts from his own vantage point. that would be the only thing he would add to that particular part of the conversation, seeing as, they’d gone over this already. and honestly, he wasn’t one to MENCE words. not with someone who seemed to think that his words had any effect on him. in all honesty, they wouldn’t have to look too hard in new york. the stark family was widely known, or more importantly tony ( the one and only ironman was, not so much, his bastard offspring ).

at the furthered statement about mundanes, and their complete involvement or rather uninvolvement, logan scoffs loudly ; a darkened laugh falling past his lips.  ❛  oh yeah? tell that to my mother. oh that’s right, you can’t, because your precious MUNDANES, the humans, hunters, whatever you want to call them, made sure of that. but that’s cute, continue acting like they’re harmless individuals that need protecting.  ❜  he snaps rather vehemently, despite himself. the wolf didn’t like talkng about her, even after all these years, it’s too fresh of a wound in his mind ( just as it always would be ).

❛  ─  whatever. i’m sure i’ll see you around, jace.  ❜  that was the last parting line he gave, before vanishing completely. like he had said, he had places to be, and a rather impatient father who was expecting him to make an appearance at one of the COUNTLESS charity events he was hosting. pesky family obligations.

                     ─ END.

THIS TIME HE DIDN’T BOTHER TO HIDE the fact he’d rolled his eyes. questions meant that he had all the answers when he returned to the institute. he knew they’d ask should trouble crop up and he knew that if anyone mentioned new downworlders in the city he’d have to bring up this one and make them see that he wasn’t there to cause any sort of trouble. but the only way to find that out was to ask questions and if he didn’t like that it wasn’t his fault. jace would rather them get the questions out of the way now instead of under the soul sword or worse. “trust me when i say you’d rather have me ask these questions than someone else. they won’t be as nice nor will they care just exactly why you’re here and what trouble you may or may not bring.” at least they wouldn’t have to worry about him. he had enough problems to worry about without adding yet another downworlder to them.

“of course it’s possible. but we also rely on the local packs to let us know when there’s a new member.” and luke hadn’t mentioned that there were any new members of his pack. which meant he was most likely rogue or unaffiliated. either way, now that he knew there was one in town he could make a point of telling the institute not to bother with him. not unless they wanted to deal with yet another grumpy downworlder. something told him that luke just might step up if they should start harassing all the wolves in the city. “you’d be surprised how many there are in brooklyn and they are all under our care thanks to the accords.” something else he might need to explain to him if he didn’t know about them.

at least he could let him go to whatever it was he needed to do. if he was there to visit family so be it. he wasn’t going to stop him from doing that. not when all of his questions had been answered. now should there be any sort of trouble of course jace would track him down and ask what he knew. the local packs knew not to stir up trouble but not all the unaffiliated ones did. and he couldn’t help but think that this one was going to stir up trouble. intentionally or not he just gave off a vibe that told him that trouble would find him one way or another. “you’re free to go. just keep to the accords and leave the mundanes be and we won’t have any problems.”

the wolf sensed that the comment about someone else asking questions,  was a sort of subtle innuendo. not that he was all too WORRIED. he had dealt with, and survived, worse. ❛ these questions are ridiculous. all you people act like you don’t understand the whole pecking order. us DOWNWORLDERS, as you fondly refer to us as need to be  kept in check, and that’s fine ─ i guess… if we were living in the dark ages. ❜ he comments with a slight rolling of his shoulders, along with an absent dismissive wave of his hand.

❛ ─ you won’t hear about me from the neighboring packs. i don’t make it a point of messing with those groups. i’m much off better solo anyway. ❜ logan admits simply enough. HE WAS TOO STUBBORN. it was well known that within each pack of wolves, was a leader, and clearly logan had never been the kind to simply  fall in line, with anyone ( that was his first moto once his mother was savagely killed by a group of hunters ; to rely on, and answer to, nobody )

once he had been dismissed, logan nods, smirking towards the blond while he took a few steps backward. ❛ THE ACCORDS. those pesky little rules. was never very good at following those ─ i’ll tell you what, if they mind their own damn business, i’ll leave them alone. but … ❜ logan pauses, before outstretching his arms at either side of him, and continues to fall into the shadows behind him. ❛ ─ i make no PROMISES if they come after me. i am a master at control. considering what i am and who my family is, i have to be, but even i can only be PUSHED so far. if that means we have problems, so be it… try to relax, jace. there’s no need to look like you’re sucking on a LEMON all the time. ❜

AS NEPHILIM THE HUNT was what pushed them even further. of course, there was also the accords that needed to be enforced and the mundanes that needed protecting from the things that haunted their world. but it was always the hunt, the chasing down of demons that he loved the most. it was strange to actually talk about it with someone else. most downworlders hated dealing with shadowhunters. they all knew that the downworlders had names for them and ones that they very rarely repeated. so who was this one and why had he not decided to remind him that shadowhunters tended to look down on them as if they were better than them. some days maybe he did but that didn’t explain this whole conversation. something about it was off in a way he couldn’t quite put his finger on. jace was starting to think that was for the BEST. if he dared look closer he knew he’d see what was off and then their whole conversation would have to change. “not too many people understand that,” he told him, shrugging his shoulders. only someone like him or a downworlder would and the longer they talked the more he got the feeling he was talking to a downworlder. which was odd considering he’s met most of the ones in new york.

“jace herondale,” he gave in return, his own curiosity having finally been satiated. not being from the city explained it all and why he’d never seen him before. “i wasn’t born in new york either but i’ve lived here most of my life. you tend to know who’s from here and who isn’t.” which was why he knew this one was different from all the others. he’d never seen him before and now he knew why. technically he should actually report him to the institute so they could create a file on him. in  time maybe he would. but at the moment he didn’t feel the need to. now if the other got into TROUBLE then he wouldn’t have much of a choice. until then, though, he’d allow him to stay under the radar. “so what brings you to the city. anything we should be aware of?”

HE’S NOT A FAN OF THE QUESTIONS. then again, he was a man who ideally enjoyed what modicum of privacy he could get ( which wasn’t a whole hell of a lot, considering his familial ties ). ❛ ─ i was just starting to like you, don’t go ruining it by putting your arrogant nose where it doesn’t belong, alright? i’m here, because this is where the only family i’ve got left is at, nothing NEFARIOUS for you to worry your pretty head over. ❜ he states bitterly, though mostly due to the fact that over the course of this very short conversation, he’d mentioned tony far more than he had wished to.

❛ be that as it may, i’ve been here for years, and even before i spent quite a bit of my time in this city previous to moving here so… don’t know where that falls in your THEORY of knowing your surroundings. ❜ he pauses, ❛ ─ it is possible to simply miss a few, especially when you’re talking about a city that has upwards of nine million people living within it. ❜ of course, there weren’t too many werewolves in the area, he had of course, made sure to keep an eye on the dozens or so that he’d come across.

EVERYONE knew vaguely of him, or at least knew his last name, and who it was connected to ; so the mere fact that this guy seemed to either be ignoring that fact ( or had been conveniently lived under a rock ) was a welcomed change of pace. even if just marginally. ❛ does that conclude the interrogation portion of this conversation? because honestly, i’ve got PLACES i need to be. ❜ and potentially hunters to eat, so, a timetable on his unexpected visitor would be appreciated.
